The 6th International Conference launched

The 6th International Conference of the African Evaluation Association (AfrEA) was publicly launched on
Tuesday, 20th September, 2011 by Dr Sulley Gariba, Development Policy Advisor, Office of the Vice President
of the Republic of Ghana, in the Conference Room of the National Development Planning Commission in
Accra, Co-Sponsors of the conference. Dr Gariba is a past President of AfrEA and currently a member of the
International Advisory Committee of the conference.

The public launch was attended by a select group of Ghanaian media institutions as well as representatives of
the National Development Planning Commission, the University of Ghana, UNICEF, the Ghana Monitoring &
Evaluation Forum, and the Ghana Evaluators' Association among others.

The Official Address delivered on the occasion by Dr. Florence Etta, AfrEA President presented information on
AfrEA as on organisation, the design and architecture of the 6th AfrEA conference in addition to the preparatory
work being undertaken to ensure a successful conference. Dr. Etta expressed her gratitude on behalf of the
AfrEA Board to the Local Organising Committee and the 25-member voluntary International Advisory Committee
which has been critical and very supportive in working with the Board and the Conference Management Team.

The National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) and the Institute of African Studies University of
Ghana are co-hosts of the 6th International Conference of the African Evaluation Association (AfrEA) whereas
the Ghana Monitoring and Evaluation Forum (GMEF) is one of the co-organisers.

Statements were made by the Conference Co-hosts and co-organiser:

Mr. Bruno B. Dery, Deputy Director, National Development Planning Commission and Co-Chairman of the Local
Organising Committee of the 6th AfrEA Conference underscored the need for the partners to re-energise and
commit themselves to the tasks of mobilizing members and constituents to participate in the conference.

Dr. Michael W. Kpessa of the Institute of African Studies and a member of the Local Organising Committee
represented the Director of the Institute, Professor Akosua Adomako Ampofo, who was unavoidably absent. In
a prepared statement read on her behalf, she re-iterated her happiness and pride that the Institute of African
Studies is associated with 6th AfrEA Conference and underscored the need for concerted M & E advocacy.

Mrs. Dede Bedu-Addo, Co-ordinator, Ghana M & E Forum expressed the commitment of the Ghana M & E
Forum to work assiduously towards the success of the Conference.

The launch was widely reported in the largest circulating newspapers in Ghana; the Daily Graphic and the
Ghanaian Times; (scanned copies of the reports attached) and on the TV3 network in the main news segment
on 21st September, 2011.

The 6th International Conference of AfrEA will take place in Accra, Ghana from 9th – 13th January, 2012 under
the theme "Rights and Responsibility in Development Evaluation".
